About Me

6 diabetes burnout symptoms that you should catch now

I Know What It’s Like To Feel Worn Down By Type 1 Diabetes

Not because I’ve studied it.

Not because I’ve read about it.

Because I live it.

I’ve been living with Type 1 diabetes for over 20 years.

During that time, I’ve experienced the highs, lows, frustrations, fears, burnout, guilt, and exhaustion that many people with Type 1 diabetes quietly carry every day.

I’ve spent nights staring at blood sugar readings.

I’ve dealt with the mental load that never seems to switch off.

I’ve questioned whether I was doing enough.

I’ve felt overwhelmed by it.

And I’ve learned that managing Type 1 diabetes is about far more than insulin, carb counting, and blood sugar numbers.

It’s about living your life while carrying an invisible responsibility that never takes a day off.

Why I Created Mind Over Sugar

For years, I noticed something.

Most diabetes support focuses on numbers.

Blood sugar numbers.

HbA1c numbers.

Carb numbers.

Insulin doses.

All important.

But very little attention is given to how living with Type 1 diabetes actually feels.

The frustration.

The burnout.

The constant thinking.

The pressure to “get it right.”

The fear of getting it wrong.

Mind Over Sugar was created to support the emotional side of Type 1 diabetes.

Not because mindset replaces insulin.

Not because positive thinking fixes blood sugars.

But because your mental wellbeing matters too.

My Background

Alongside living with Type 1 diabetes, I’ve spent over 15 years working in healthcare and mental health services.

During that time, I supported people through some of the most challenging periods of their lives.

I learned the importance of listening.

I learned the importance of compassion.

And I learned that people rarely need another lecture.

What they often need is someone who understands.

Today, I combine my lived experience of Type 1 diabetes with my background in healthcare and mental health to help others navigate the emotional challenges that often come with this condition.

What I Believe

I believe:

  • You are more than your blood sugar numbers.
  • A difficult diabetes day does not mean you’re failing.
  • Burnout is more common than most people realise.
  • Perfection is not required.
  • Small mindset shifts can make a big difference over time.
  • Nobody should feel alone in this.

How I Can Help

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, frustrated, exhausted, or simply tired of carrying the mental load of T1D on your own, you’re in the right place.

Through articles, resources, and one-to-one support, my goal is simple:

To help you regain a sense of balance, perspective, and confidence while living with Type 1 diabetes.

Not by pretending diabetes is easy.

But by helping you navigate it with a little more self-compassion and a little less pressure.

A Final Thought

One of the biggest lessons T1D has taught me is this:

You don’t have to win every battle to keep moving forward.

Some days will be harder than others.

Some days will feel frustrating.

Some days will feel unfair.

That’s part of living with Type 1 diabetes.

But you’re not alone.

And you don’t have to carry it all by yourself.
